Environmental Design 1: Icescape
In an effort to practice environmental design, I decided to watch a few tutorials and timelapse videos on YouTube before attempting my own design.
The painting was first created in grayscale in order to gather a good idea of the contrast values.
- Several layers were made with the alpha lock tool to prevent painting on to other shapes. The layers were separated by: glacier structure in the background, ground snow, glacier in midground, and water layer atop the ground snow's layer.
- The piece was then colored using multiply and other layer effects such as overlay.
- For the final version, a layer on top of everything was made with the layer effect 'multiply' as a lowered opacity for airbrushing to deepen saturation in several areas.
